The rooms we remember are rarely the fullest. Leaving space is a design decision, not an omission.
Space as a material
We treat empty space the way we treat oak or stone: as something to be placed with intent. A clear wall gives a single piece of furniture its presence; an open floor lets light travel further.
Fewer, better things
Editing is most of the work. We would rather choose one generous sofa than three small chairs, and one good lamp than a ceiling full of spots.
The result is a room that feels calm on the first visit and still feels calm years later.
